Many retailers use mobile platforms these days. Examples include ZARA, BEST BUY, SEARS, TARGET, and more. Though some of the retailers are playing around with monetization of their application through mobile commerce (which is not a very mature market yet and only a small amount of retailers are able to really sell their products through mobile devices), there arent many monetization models which are effective. It seems that many retailers have opted to use their apps as branding tools and sources of information about products for their users rather than revenue generators.
Appoxee has solved this problem for several retailers in the market. Since the client has allowed us to share some sensitive business data we were asked to maintain the retailers privacy so we will call the specific retailer in this use case THE COFFEE KING.
The Coffee King singed up with Appoxee in early 2011 with the goal of engaging their users to use their iPhone application. Very early in the process THE COFFEE KING understood that Appoxee would be an amazing way to engage their users offline by offering coupons to their stores in the app using Appoxee.
Imagine the following scenario. Once a week the COFFEE KING sends out a coupon to their users using the Appoxee MESSAGE + PUSH mechanism. The text goes something like this in the PUSH NOTIFICATION “Click here to get a FREE Donut with your next Coffee” When the user clicks the “View Button” on the push notification they are automatically taken to the message in the application. This message is a well designed Coupon thats says something like “come into our store sometime this week and say “I Love the Coffee King” to the cashier and you will get a FREE Donut!” (Each week the user is asked to say a different phrase. )
To date, over 20,000 clients have come into The COFFEE KINGS stores and said “I Love the Coffee King” (or what ever variation was applicable that week) at the cashier. These 20,000 clients had an average ticket price of over 5$ each IE they generated approximately $100,000 in revenue.
Until Appoxee the COFFEE KINGS app had approx 270,000 Downloads and approximately 400 new downloads per day. BUT on Average their users used the application only once! Now with Appoxee not only have they been able to increase average usage to over 3 times a month per end user but they have been able to to bring in real foot traffic and real revenues. Thats what we call user engagement!
